Health and Safety Laws on the Scrapheap?

Reading the daily newspapers you would think that big changes are happening to health and safety law, but what’s the real story

The government appointed Professor Lofstedt to complete a review of health and safety regulations, this has now been completed and if you was to believe the press reports “elf and safety axe” you would think that big charges are about to happen but it seems the press did not read the whole report as the professor stated that, in general, existing health and safety laws are actually fit for purpose and there is no need to empty to bin of all the regulation yet.

However he did go on to say that some could be reviewed to include the:-

Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981

CDM 2007

RIDDOR 1995

Electricity at Work 1989

Work at heights 2005

Some might change quite quickly perhaps even this April.

Essential Safety will keep you up dated.
